5 Ways to increase curb appeal

5 Ways to Increase Curb Appeal

In the world of real estate sales, it’s still “location, location, location.” But coming in a close second is “curb appeal, curb appeal, curb appeal.” Real estate professionals agree that the majority of serious buyers will not even enter a prospective home if the appearance of the outside is lacking.

With predictions for high buyer demand in 2017 as well as mortgage interest rates beginning to creep up, having your house ready to list as early in the year as possible will result in a higher selling price and in a shorter amount of time.

  1. Paint the front door

A fresh coat of paint can go a long way in sprucing up a home. Try deep red for a bold look, or slate gray for a sophisticated touch. Replace the house numbers if they are dull or faded. Add molding above the door to finish it off.

  1. Plant flowers

Professional landscaping can be expensive, but planting flowers can be a low-cost upgrade. Step up your flower game with window boxes for your new blooms. Oversized ceramic pots with floral plantings are another attractive way to draw attention to the front porch or walkway.

  1. Give the mailbox a makeover

A sturdy, new mailbox is welcoming and keeps your home from showing its true age. Try a mailbox with a durable wooden base, or choose a mailbox with a planter for flowers. Dress up your mailbox with a coat of paint. Secure new house numbers on the mailbox or on the side of the wooden base.

  1. Blend the ugly necessities

Unsightly wires and cables may be impossible to remove, but you can hide them. Paint wires the same color as your house to help any of these types of eyesores blend in.

  1. Add shutters or window trims

If you’re able to splurge, add shutters or another type of window trim to your front windows. This can make windows look twice their size and acts as the finishing touch on a home’s exterior.
